COVID CASH FOR CORNISH FARMERS

CORNISH Dairy Farmers who’ve lost more than 25 per-cent of their income during the Covid19 lockdown can claim up to £10,000 to help stay afloat.

The news just broke on the Government’s website – there’s no link for claims yet.

Announcing the payout Environment Secretary George Eustice said: “Our dairy industry plays a crucial role in feeding our nation and we are doing all we can to ensure they are properly supported during this time.”

George, who’s the MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, went on: “We’ve already relaxed competition laws so dairy farmers can work together through the toughest months, but recognise there is more to be done.

“That is why today (May 6th) we have kick started a new campaign to boost milk consumption and have announced a further package of funding.

“We will continue to stand alongside our dairy farmers through this difficult period.”

There’s also a plan for a one million pound DEFRA and Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board advertising campaign encouraging people to drink more milk.

Christine Watts of AHDB’s Chief Marketing Officer said: “It will link consumers’ love of the great taste of milk and dairy with these challenging times at home and at work.
